PI for Community Engagement in Chennai will mobilize eligible women for the “Women with Wheels” program, network with NGOs, plan outreach, identify local mobilizers, and handle documentation and database maintenance.

About Azad Foundation:
Azad is a professional feminist organization working across social and religious divides to enable resource poor women to empower themselves by engaging them in viable non- traditional livelihood options. Azad is committed to breaking patriarchal boundaries and structures so that the women can exercise control over their lives and live a life of dignity. This is done through transformative capacity building programs around the self and the skills needed for non-traditional livelihood, based on adult learning principles. Azad also engages with both men and women in their communities so that both can construct a safe and supportive space for their development. Currently, Azad Foundation operates directly in Delhi, Jaipur, Chennai and Kolkata and in partnership with other organizations in Indore, Bhubaneshwar, Ahmedabad and Lucknow.

Role Description
Job Summary:
Program Implementer (PI)- Community Engagement, Azad Foundation, Chennai will be responsible for mobilizing interested and eligible women from resource poor families for “Women with Wheels’’ program as per the criteria. The PI will also network with grassroots NGOs/development agencies to motivate women from their work areas. She will plan and execute outreach and mobilization activities in different parts of the city, identify local mobilisers and community resource persons. She will be responsible for related documentation and shall maintain the database.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify potential resource poor areas from which women can be enrolled.
  • Recruit mobilizers from those areas.
  • Orient mobilizers on Azad Foundation’s vision, mission and values.
  • Orient mobilizers on gender, feminism, economic empowerment, livelihoods, etc.
  • Build a mobilization team, give guidance and support to the team members.
  • Design and implement different Outreach and Mobilization activities like identification of eligible women through survey, organizing camps in areas, holding Focused Groups Discussions (FGDs) with women, men and opinion leaders, mic announcements and other mass communication strategies to reach out to eligible young women, families and communities.
  • Ensure regular follow-ups and home visits to the families of interested and eligible women to motivate them for the program. Ensure that regular home visits to the families of trainees are conducted by community mobilizers.
  • Make regular field visits to network in community with opinion leaders and other supporting agencies.
  • Liaise with development NGOs and actively participate in different campaigns that help build equality and generate public voice against violence in the society, campaigns such as 16 days of activism against violence on women, OBR, save girl child.
  • Responsible for up keeping of detailed database, related to mobilization activities.
  • Compile and present information in the meetings.
  • Monitor team performance regularly and provide feedback.
  • Coordinate with PI Training & Placement to monitor the progress made by trainees.
  • Prepare monthly plans and reports.

Professional Qualifications and Experience:

  • Educational Qualifications – Graduation/Post Graduation in any discipline, Social work/ Social Science will be an advantage.
  • Professional Experience – 2-3 years’ experience of working in the Social Development Sector, with women at the grassroots level.
  • Computer Skills -Skilled in handling computers especially the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Language Proficiency – Proficiency in English & Tamil – reading, writing and speaking. Knowledge of Hindi is an advantage.

Work conditions:

  • Travel: Expected to travel to different areas within the city for mobilization processes.
